How to solve any career problem

Published on July 11, 2024

The best weekends don't start with dread. The best weekends start with excitement.

But then come Monday, you start the week with dread again. How can you figure out what’s missing, what’s wrong? And what can you do?

Ask some questions. Give yourself answers.

Q: Are you lacking purpose?
Time to reflect on what you want, what excites you, what makes you feel fulfilled.

Q: Is your workload overwhelming?
Prioritise tasks by urgency and importance.Break them into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Delegate. Ask for help.

Q: Poor work-life balance?

Make time for relaxation and activities you enjoy. Practice self-care.

Q: Toxic work environment?
Find out what’s making it so. Focus on the positive relationships. Seek out people who encourage you. Leave.

Q: Lack of progress?

Set specific, achievable goals. Track your progress closely and celebrate every little thing.

Q: Unresolved issues?

Identify what they are. What is causing them. Take proactive steps to address and resolve them.
Talk to your boss about your concerns and needs.

Q: Monotony and boredom?

What specifically is monotonous and boring? Can you do anything about it? Can you take on new challenges to make work more interesting? Can you get creative?

Q: Feeling undervalued?

Make sure you’re valuing yourself first. Watch your internal dialogue. Then ask for new assignments. Keep asking until you decide it’s time to take your value elsewhere.

Q: Lack of motivation?

Think of what you like to do. What interests you. Find ways to bring them back into your life and work. Seek the company of people who inspire and motivate you.
